State of the Union Address Word Count

The New York Times website has an interesting feature concerning the 2007 State of the Union Address. It allows users enter any word and then the application counts how many times that word appeared in Bush’s SOTU address in each year from 2001 to 2007.

Check the NY Times SOTU word count site.

I did that exercise for some common energy related terms, as well as some non-energy related words that dominate the world agenda since 2001. Look at the results below. I don’t think this is a fair comparison but in total, energy related terms are used more than the word “war” and almost as much as the word “terror”. By the way, how about “climate change” and “global warming”? Altogether only once!
